Job description

A dynamic South London local authority is seeking a dedicated Homeless Prevention Visiting Officer to join their Housing Solutions team. In this vital frontline role, you will work directly with residents at risk of losing their homes – carrying out home visits to assess needs, conduct detailed housing needs assessments, and develop personalised housing plans in line with the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and best practice.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out home visits to assess needs and understand individual circumstances.
  • Develop personalised housing plans in line with HRA 2017, associated guidance and best practice.
  • Manage a varied and complex caseload, providing expert advice, advocacy, negotiation and mediation to help residents sustain their housing.
  • Where prevention or relief isn't possible, assess homelessness applications under Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 and communicate outcomes clearly and sensitively.
Qualifications
  • Solid understanding of housing and homelessness legislation, housing management and allocations.
  • Broad knowledge of the housing and support needs of homeless individuals, applicants and tenants.
  • Proven experience working with diverse and vulnerable clients in a housing or homelessness environment.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver a high-quality service.
  • Experience achieving performance targets, handling public enquiries and complaints, and providing accurate housing advice.
