Overview
Do you have a passion for supporting physiological birth? Do you want to provide unhurried, person-centred care in the home? Do you have the expertise to provide high quality, safe care? We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic band 6 midwife to join our team. The role is to become part of a friendly, dedicated homebirth team, providing care in the home through the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal period. You will hold a caseload of women for whom you will be the named midwife throughout the antenatal and postnatal period. You will have a passion for individualised care and supporting choice, with excellent communication skills to enable the planning and implementation of midwifery-led care in partnership with the wider multidisciplinary team. You will continually provide holistic risk assessments for those choosing to birth at home to ensure medical, psychological and social needs are met.
Responsibilities
- Provide safe, evidence-based and personalised care to women/birthing people and their babies throughout pregnancy, birth and the postnatal journey.
- Promote and facilitate choice for those wishing to birth at home.
- Undertake holistic risk assessments and ensure delivery of appropriate care.
- Work in partnership with the wider multidisciplinary team, enabling coordinated care and appropriate referrals.
- Actively contribute to reducing health inequalities by supporting a service accessible to all.
- Manage all aspects of care provided within the community setting, including intrapartum care at home.
- Participate in parenting assessments/education and maintain effective working relationships across the Trust.
- Offer models of care personalised to individual needs, respecting diversity and dignity of all clients.
- Support women/birthing people to achieve good clinical and psychological outcomes for themselves and their babies.
- Identify families with child in need/child protection issues and communicate with the manager and named midwife for safeguarding.
- Develop midwifery practice for the future, building on public health skills to maximise impact on reducing inequalities in health.
- Work in partnership with children’s centres and other agencies, offering wider choice and local access to services.
- Communicate complicated and sensitive information to women, families and a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ensure changes are implemented based on feedback and learning from feedback and incidents.
- Contribute to the performance management of midwifery services through data collection for audit and research purposes.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Band 6 midwife with the ability to become part of a dedicated homebirth team.
- Flexibility to provide care in the home setting.
- Full driving licence with access to a car.
- Ability to hold a caseload and act as the named midwife throughout antenatal and postnatal periods.
- Strong communication skills and commitment to individualised, evidence-based care.
