Job Objectives and Responsibilities

You will continue to develop and implement the Health, Safety and Environment strategy for the Prison ensuring all Mitie procedures and Prison requirements are met. You will provide support for the Prison management team to achieve highest QHSE standards and will optimise the HSE structure in I&J and the wider Mitie, by adopting strong processes to help the businesses obtain their targeted results and embed a positive health and safety culture. You will be a part of the development of the HSE workstream - providing coaching and mentoring to the prison team. You will represent HSE as part of the senior management team. You will have input and manage the Risk, Assurance and Compliance of the Prison. You will have responsibility for providing an excellent Client facing HSE service to the Business. You will also have responsibility for delivering a Quality and risk management service that promotes continual improvement and a culture of compliance. You will be coordinating the Prison Fire Safety management system including the organisation of Fire Risk Assessments.

Person Specification

We are looking for motivated, caring individuals who want to be part of our team that will play their part in the Government's drive to cut reoffending through effective rehabilitation; enabling offenders to turn their lives around for good. We will provide a safe, secure environment at HMP Millsike, thus providing reassurance to the public and victims of crime that perpetrators are serving a secure sentence for their crimes.

Knowledge and Experience
  • Experience in a managing QHSE role in a custodial or secure environment is preferred, however not essential.
  • Qualified to NEBOSH certificate level or above
  • Proven track record in delivering QHSE change management initiatives
  • Strong proven knowledge and application of UK Health, Safety & Environmental law
  • Sound knowledge of risks and controls associated with the provision of regulated activities
  • Sound knowledge of risks and controls associated with high‑risk activities undertaken across the business
  • Proven project management skills and problem solving with ability to prioritise and multitask
Key Attributes
  • Ability to manage a team and give direction, support and advice
  • Ability to form close working relationships with the wider QHSE team in order to influence and develop divisional strategy
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written and a confident, professional manner
  • Confident in presentation skills both internally and client facing
  • Ability to drive the QHSE agenda with the Senior Management Team.
  • Team player and confidence to build relationships across the business
  • A diplomatic but firm manner with excellent powers of persuasion and ability to make own decisions
