Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) - Life Skills Specialist

Are you a HLTA or an experienced TA with a passion for empowering young people with essential life skills? Do you have the creativity and dedication to help students develop independence and confidence for their futures? Tradewind Recruitment has multiple HLTA positions available across North London schools, specialising in Life Skills education. These positions offer the opportunity to take on greater responsibility while supporting students to develop the practical skills they need to thrive in everyday life.

Responsibilities
  • Lead engaging Life Skills lessons across the school – cooking, communication, money management, personal care, and more.
  • Work closely with class teachers to embed life skills into everyday learning.
  • Support pupils one-to-one and in small groups, helping them access learning and feel successful.
  • Deliver scheduled teacher cover in half-day blocks, including your own Life Skills lesson plans.
  • Promote independence, self-esteem and social inclusion in every session.
  • Use your knowledge and creativity to plan structured, motivating activities.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teachers.
  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive and stimulating learning environment.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience working with children or young people in an educational setting.
  • Ability to plan, deliver and evaluate engaging, hands‑on learning activities independently.
  • Experience delivering structured lessons and covering classes during teacher absence.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to motivate and inspire students.
  • Creativity and resourcefulness in developing meaningful life skills activities.
  • Understanding of health and safety requirements, particularly for practical activities such as cooking.
  • Current Enhanced DBS Disclosure, overseas police clearances (where applicable) and professional references.
  • Complete CV detailing employment history for the previous 10 years where available.
  • Valid right to work in the UK.
