Job summary

Discovery Academy, part of the Nexus Multi Academy Trust in Sheffield, invites applications for an HLTA to support learning for pupils with SEND, including cover duties and Speech & Language support. You will work with teachers to deliver inclusive lessons, respond to individual needs and help pupils access learning in a nurturing environment.

This permanent post is 36 hours per week, term time only, with an actual salary of £27,887 to £29,950 (including a 3.3% increase from April 2026).

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of SEN advantageous.
  • Experience in delivering SALT would be advantageous.
  • Ability to respond to emotional, social and mental health needs of pupils.
  • Experience of working with pupils of relevant age would be beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Support whole class lessons, group work and one-to-one with pupils.
  • Be part of a committed staff team focused on improving life chances for children and young people.
  • Respond to individual needs to facilitate access to learning.

Discovery Academy is a school for children and young people with SEND located on the Norfolk Park Estate in Sheffield. The Academy is run by the award-winning Nexus Multi Academy Trust, and we have been open for just over 4 years.

Knowledge of SEN will be advantageous and you must be able to respond to the emotional, social and mental health needs of our children and young people. You will be required to ensure the safety of our children and young people and facilitate their access to learning by responding to individual needs

Experience in working with the relative aged pupils for the position in which you to be considered for would be necessary and also if you have previous experience of delivering SALT would be advantageous.

Via your excellent interpersonal skills, you will have the opportunity to make judgements on the attainment and progress of our students and be able to help them celebrate success.

You will be working as part of a team supporting whole class lessons, group work and working one to one with pupils. You will be part of a committed staff team who are motivated every day by improving the life chances of our children and young people.
