Job description
Responsibilities
  • Assist in the provision of specialist paediatric pathology services, which encompasses a wide variety of specialist techniques in: Specimen Reception, Tissue Banking, Dissection, Cryotomy, Microtomy, Special Stains, Immunohistochemistry, Electron Microscopy, Enzyme Histochemistry, and other specialist techniques for renal, cardiac and muscle biopsies.
  • Take part in a rotation through the different sections to provide an efficient, effective, and high-quality service.
  • Have team leading responsibilities, acting up as the section leader whenever the respective Senior Biomedical Scientist is absent or unavailable.
  • Participate on the rota for the late afternoon shift (there is no on‑call service).
  • Assist with a variety of research projects and promote the research and development of new techniques.
  • Participate in and assist the project to digitise the work using whole slide scanning, and help its expansion.
  • Continuously gain and maintain a wide range of skills, knowledge and technical expertise, and continue to learn and develop.

The recruitment process for all admin and clerical roles at Bands 2-4 will be a two stage recruitment process whereby shortlisted candidates will undertake an online literacy, numeracy, ICT and typing test. Only those candidates who pass the competency test will proceed to a formal interview.
