Job summary

Balfour Beatty Highways is seeking a Site Engineer for the A66 NTP scheme based in Penrith, Cumbria. You will manage site works, supervise graduates, and ensure drawings, inspections, and safety requirements are met to a high standard.

The role requires a Civil Engineering degree or HND/HNC, CSCS and SSSTS/SMSTS, and the ability to coordinate with subcontractors and stakeholders on complex highway projects. Excellent communication and ownership of tasks are essential.

Qualifications

• Degree or HND/HNC in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
• CSCS and/or SSSTS and/or SMSTS
• Clear communication of safe system of work requirements
• Ability to take ownership of tasks and work on own initiative
• Up-to-date knowledge of engineering and industry best practice
• Strong understanding of setting out and coaching team members
• Knowledge of setting out and techniques in Earthworks, Drainage, Pavement, and Structures

Responsibilities

• Maintain comprehensive records of site works and daily diaries
• Validate allocation sheets and supervise site operations
• Carry out setting out, read drawings, and check dimensions
• Maintain survey records and produce as-built drawings
• Supervise graduates/trainees and manage subcontractors
• Input into weekly programmes and short-term schedules
• Produce Method Statements, Risk Assessments, and daily briefings
• Conduct onsite safety inspections and quality checks
• Raise quality/workmanship issues and maintain documentation
