Project Manager – Highways

Ringmer, East Sussex • 6 month contract

Overview

We are seeking two experienced Project Managers to lead the delivery of planned highways works for a UK Local Authority. The successful candidates will manage the end‑to‑end delivery of schemes valued at £250k and above, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver planned highways projects in accordance with client and local authority requirements.
  • Oversee all aspects of project management, including planning, execution, cost control and reporting.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, stakeholders and subcontractors.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to agents and supervisors within the project team.
  • Ensure full compliance with health, safety and environmental standards across all project phases.
  • Monitor and manage risk, programme and quality performance.
Essential Requirements
  • Proven experience delivering highways or civil engineering projects within a UK Local Authority environment.
  • Demonstrable experience managing schemes of £250k+ value.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to mentor and support junior team members effectively.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
Qualifications
  • CSCS Manager Card – Essential
  • SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) – Essential
  • Health & Safety qualification – Preferable (e.g. NEBOSH, IOSH Managing Safely)
