Job summary

ESSENTIAL EMPLOYMENT LTD seeks a Highways & Planning Lawyer for a hybrid/remote role in Oxford. You will provide high quality legal advice, draft planning and highway agreements, and undertake negotiations and litigation when required.

The role requires a current practising certificate, local authority experience, and recent s106/highway agreement work. This is a full temporary contract position with a flexible hybrid/remote setup.

Qualifications

• Current Practising Certificate required.
• Local Authority experience advantageous.
• Experience drafting Planning and Highway Agreements.
• Recent involvement with s106 and highway agreements.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high quality legal advice to Directorates and Corporate Services.
• Negotiate to protect objectives; undertake litigation and advocacy as needed.
• Participate in project teams to deliver timely, responsive services.
• Research developments in the law to ensure best practice for clients.

Highways & Planning Lawyer (Hybrid/Remote) needed in Oxford, £60ph PAYE - Reference: 481244

Will consider remote working

• Deliver high quality legal advice and services to Directorates and Corporate Services including, where appropriate, drafting documents and legal agreements, to ensure that policy is formulated, and operational decisions are taken on a sound legal basis.
• Undertake negotiations to protect and further the objectives, and, where necessary, undertake litigation and advocacy in the courts, tribunals, Statutory appeals and inquiries.
• Participate in project teams to ensure the achievement of objectives and the delivery of high-quality legal advice and services to client Services, Departments and, where appropriate, contractors.
• Identify, research and anticipate the effects on service provision of new developments in the law to ensure that clients can adopt best practice in the delivery of timely and responsive services.
• Provide legal and procedural advice to Members and training to Members and client Services, Departments and, where appropriate, contractors to ensure that policy and operational decisions are taken in the most beneficial and effective manner.

You will ideally have -

• Current Practising Certificate
• Local Authority experience
• Drafting Planning Agreements and Highway Agreements
• Recent experience of s106 agreements and highway agreements,

This is a Full role on a temporary contract basis.
