Job summary

Carnell Group is seeking a Highways Operative to join our site teams across the UK, based in Featherstone and travelling to various sites. The role involves night shifts and staying away from home when required.

You will perform diverse construction and maintenance tasks, including kerbs, ducting, cabling, earthworks, and reading plans, ensuring safety and quality across the highways network.

Qualifications

• Essential qualifications include NPORS/CPCS tickets for plant, CSCS card, and a valid First Aid certificate.
• A valid UK driving licence is required to travel between sites.
• Experience in highways or civil engineering environments is preferred.
• Ability to read plans and work safely to high standards.

Responsibilities

• Carry out construction and maintenance tasks (kerbs, edgings, flagging/trenching).
• Manage ducting and cabinet site setups; cabling and electrical ducting work.
• Perform earthworks, concreting, steps, and other structures; read/interpret plans.
• Ensure work meets standards and safety regulations; travel to sites; night shifts away from home.

Contract: Full-time

What You’ll Be Doing:

You’ll work as part of a supportive site team, carrying out a variety of construction and maintenance tasks, including but not limited to:

• Installing kerbs, edgings, and carrying out flagging/trenching
• Managing ducting and cabinet site set-ups
• Cabling and electrical ducting work
• Earthworks and concreting
• Constructing steps and other essential structures
• Reading and interpreting plans and drawings
• Ensuring all work meets required standards and safety regulations

This role involves travelling to different sites, working nights, and spending time away from home when necessary.
