Job summary

VolkerWessels UK is looking for a Highways Operative to join our Highways Term Maintenance Contract at the depot in Chichester, West Sussex.

You will perform kerb laying, drainage, asphalt works and civils tasks, operate plant with training provided, and support out-of-hours winter maintenance as part of a rota.

A strong team player with a full UK driving licence is preferred; CSCS/NRSWA training is encouraged and we offer competitive pay and benefits.

Qualifications

• Experience in highways maintenance or civils (preferred).
• NRSWA or Street Works qualification (SWQR).
• Confident operating plant and tools.
• Strong team player with reliable work ethic.
• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather.
• Full UK driving licence; HGV desirable.

Responsibilities

• Carry out highways maintenance tasks (kerb laying, drainage, asphalt, civils).
• Operate mechanical plant and machinery (training provided).
• Support emergency call-out and winter maintenance on rota.
• Work with direct labour and subcontractors to meet targets.
• Ensure work delivered safely and to quality standards.
• Maintain tools, equipment and vehicles in good condition.
