Overview

We're looking for a Highways Maintenance Operative - IRV to join our Transportation team based in Birmingham. Within this role, you can enjoy a fantastic matched pension scheme, a competitive annual holiday entitlement, and even more.

Location: Birmingham (B7 5HR)

Contract: Permanent, Full time - evenings and night

Salary: £34,000 to £39,000 depending on experience + over time + call out

Responsibilities

As a Highways Maintenance Operative, you'll be working within the IRV team, supporting them with all aspects of incident response, including attendance at, making safe, and repair of category 1 defects and assisting with highways emergencies as directed, there will also be a need to help the team in the delivery of category 2 defects as well.

Your day to day will include:

  • Undertaking works to a high technical standard, wherever practical, conducting a full repair of the defect, and when this is not possible, completing a high-quality temporary repair, aligning to the agreed operating practices
  • Attending briefings as required, allocating and capturing of time and resources used in completing tasks, in line with the systems
  • Operating vehicles and plant machinery, carrying out daily vehicle checks, routine maintenance (e.g. oil, water, wiper fluid) and cleaning, completing and submitting defect reports
  • Record keeping, completing all necessary paperwork, liaising with other employees of Kier, sub-contractors, the emergency services, general public, clients and customers
  • Communicating with the OCR, delivering the attend and make safe requirements of the project, recording times and actions
Qualifications

This role of Highways Maintenance Operative is great if you have:

  • A full driving licence
  • CSCS - Skilled Worker or higher and have relevant essential qualifications in traffic management, incident response, winter maintenance and highway maintenance operational tasks
  • Good knowledge of health and safety especially relating to highways operations
