Job summary

Ringway Jacobs is seeking a highway maintenance team lead to work within the UK with responsibility for directing a small team and delivering diverse maintenance tasks across carriageways, footways, drainage and minor civils. Emphasis on safety, quality and timely delivery.

The role requires a valid driving licence, with LGV class 2 desirable, and the ability to conduct safety and environmental audits, risk assessments, and traffic management.

Qualifications

• Highway maintenance experience.
• Current, valid driving licence is essential, with LGV class 2 as desirable.
• Able to carry out safety, quality and environmental audits and risk assessments.
• Able to take responsibility for traffic management, 12 A/B Traffic Management.
• A good understanding of health and safety and its impact on the workplace.
• Environmental awareness and waste management; NHSS 12 training/qualifications desirable.
• Experience with handheld devices (Tablets/PDAs/Smartphones) advantageous.

Job description

The main purpose of the role is to assist, generally as part of a team, in delivering highway maintenance and construction works.

The Role

• Work as part of the highway maintenance operational team.
• Manage and direct a small highway maintenance team.
• Carry out and take responsibility for a variety of skilled tasks including carriageway, footway, drainage maintenance, soft estate maintenance works (e.g. grass cutting, strimming etc) and minor civils works (e.g. setting out, paving, kerb installation, signage works etc.)
• Ensure that all works are completed safely.
• Receive daily briefings and understand risks and control measures required for the task to communicate to other members of the team.
• Complete daily record sheets and associated documents; including, site specific risk assessments assessing the safe systems of work.
• Ensure that works are completed to the required standard and within required timescales.

This role will be a good fit for you if:

• Highway’s maintenance experience.
• A current, valid driving licence is essential, with LGV class 2 as desirable.

• Able to take responsibility for traffic management, 12 A/B Traffic Management.
• A good understanding of health and safety and its impact on the workplace.
• Demonstrate awareness of environmental aspects and impacts and waste management.
• Relevant New Roads and Streetworks or NHSS 12 training and qualifications would be desirable.
• Experience in the use of handheld technology (Tablets, PDAs, Smartphones, etc) would be advantageous but not essential.
