Job summary

National Highways is seeking a Civil Engineering Estimator/Cost Engineer to join the Commercial Services Division in England. You will take-off quantities, prepare estimates using multiple platforms and rate sources, and validate cost data against market norms.

You will consider whole-life costs, risks, and options assessments while collaborating with asset owners and project managers. The role requires relevant degree or working towards, experience in estimation techniques, and strong

Qualifications

• Appropriate professional qualification and/or degree in Civil engineering/Quantity surveying/Estimation.
• Experience of estimation and cost engineering techniques (top-down and bottom-up).
• Knowledge of SHW and MMHW.
• Attention to detail and risk awareness.
• Strong written and oral communication.

Responsibilities

• Take-off and/or validate Bills of Quantities; production of estimates using various platforms and supplier rates.
• Sense-check that rates/prices are within market norms for cost and output.
• Consider programme durations, costs, risks, whole-life-costs and options assessment.
• Present completed estimates for review with peer groups and Estimating Managers; undertake peer reviews of others' estimates.
• Interact with asset owners, project managers and other staff to discuss scheme requirements, buildability, risks/opportunities and provide advice.
