Exciting Opportunity for a Highway Engineer in East Yorkshire

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a delivery-focused Highway Engineer to join my client's established highways team on a temporary contract, supporting highway maintenance projects across the East Riding of Yorkshire. This position is an initial 3‑month contract which acts as a probationary period as the position is ongoing.

This role is site‑based and office‑based – remote working is not suitable (outside IR35).

The main duties of the Highway Engineer are:
  • Undertake regular site visits to assess the condition of carriageways and footways
  • Develop appropriate maintenance treatments and prepare schedules and 2D drawings using AutoCAD
  • Supervise on‑site works and ensure delivery meets client standards
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and documentation of works undertaken
  • Collaborate with internal teams and attend meetings at client offices as required
  • Utilise MS Office (Word, Excel, Teams) and client IT systems to support project delivery
The Highway Engineer will have key experience in:
  • Sound knowledge of highway maintenance techniques, standards and specifications
  • Previous experience supervising works and maintaining detailed records
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D only) and a good level of computer literacy
  • Familiarity with local authority working environments is beneficial
  • Knowledge of NEC contracts is advantageous but not essential
  • Strong communication and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage site‑based responsibilities
