Job Description

Highway and Drainage Design Engineer - Central Leeds

An established Civil and Infrastructure Consultancy in Central Leeds is looking for a Highway and Drainage Design Engineer to join its expanding team. The practice delivers a wide range of development infrastructure projects throughout the UK, providing expert design services for highways, drainage and external works. This is a fantastic opportunity for a Civil Engineer who enjoys the technical side of design, values collaboration and wants to progress within a respected consultancy environment.

Working as part of a dedicated design team, you'll take responsibility for delivering adoptable infrastructure schemes, including the design and coordination of works under Section 278, Section 38 and Section 104 agreements.

You'll produce detailed highway and drainage designs, develop layouts for new roads, junctions and sewers, and prepare technical submissions for approval by local authorities and statutory bodies. The role offers the chance to work closely with clients, architects, contractors and adopting authorities, managing projects from initial feasibility through to construction support.

To succeed in this role, you should have experience in the design and delivery of highway and drainage infrastructure projects, ideally within a consultancy setting. You should have a sound understanding of design standards and adoption processes and be confident using industry software such as AutoCAD, PDS and MicroDrainage.

You should hold a degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent qualification and either be chartered or working towards professional registration. Strong communication, organisational and technical writing skills are essential, as is the ability to manage your workload and collaborate effectively within a multi‑disciplinary environment.

In return, you'll join a forward‑thinking team based in modern Central Leeds offices, with flexible and hybrid working arrangements available. The company offers a competitive salary, professional development support, and a clear route to progression. This role will provide exposure to a wide variety of technically challenging and rewarding infrastructure projects.
