Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Speech and Language Therapist to work across Learning Disability and Forensic services based at Little Plumstead Hospital and Broadland Clinic.

The post holder will manage a defined caseload and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to plan, implement and evaluate therapy packages for service users with learning disabilities and complex mental and physical health needs.

Responsibilities

  • Work as an integrated member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Establish effective communication with service users, carers, and colleagues.
  • Provide consultation, risk assessment & risk management recommendations.
  • Deliver highly specialist advice, training, and supervision to build capacity.
  • Develop Speech and Language Therapy provision with support from the SLT lead.
  • Supervise and lead junior staff and students as required.
  • deputise for the Therapies Professional Lead in Learning Disability services when needed.

Job description

To work within the Learning Disability and Forensic (LD&F) directorate across LD inpatient services based at Little Plumstead Hospital, with the majority of their clinical caseload at the Broadland Clinic. The post holder will also work across Norfolk within the Norfolk Forensic Community LD (NFC-LD) team and Intensive Support Service (ISS).

This role involves offering SLT assessment and intervention for service users with a learning disability and complex and intersecting mental illness and physical health needs. This will be undertaken in partnership with, To manage a defined caseload, using evidence-based, person-centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate assessment and intervention work packages for the specified service user group.

  • To work as an effective, integrated member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • To establish effective communication networks with services users and carers, team members, AHP colleagues and other agencies.
  • To provide consultation, specialist risk assessment & risk management recommendations.
  • To provide highly specialist advice, support, education and training to increase the capacity and capability of others to work with people with a learning disability.
  • To develop Speech and Language Therapy provision within the service with support from the SLT Professional Lead.
  • To undertake supervision and leadership of junior staff and students as required.
  • To deputise for the Therapies Professional Lead in Learning Disability services as necessary.
