Job Overview

Are you a Specialist Speech and Language therapist passionate about Neurodiversity?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic and organised individual to work in our Neurodevelopmental team, based in Gwynedd. The part‑time Band 7 post will involve working with children and young people and their families with Neurodevelopmental conditions and/or learning difficulties.

You will work in the West Neurodevelopmental Service which covers Gwynedd and Anglesey in North Wales. The team is multidisciplinary, including clinicians and ND practitioners from a range of backgrounds.

The service offers Neurodevelopmental assessment services to children and young people. The leadership team comprises of a team leader who is responsible for the day‑to‑day operational management of the team, as well as clinical and admin leads working in partnership with the service manager.

The ability to speak Welsh is essential for this post.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will work with children and young people within the service completing Neurodevelopmental assessments and personal strengths and needs profiles. Previous experience working with this client group is essential. You will have enthusiasm and skills to support service development and be able to lead and contribute on a range of projects to ensure a co‑ordinated service provision. You will interface with a range of other services, working collaboratively to support children, young people and their families.

You will be required to liaise with a network of SLTs across BCUHB working in both ND teams and core SLT services to reduce barriers between services and deliver a collaborative service. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to support colleagues within core services utilising their specialist skills and knowledge around this client group. The successful applicant will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team.

The role will include providing clinical and professional supervision to other team members and leading and developing the role of SLT within the MDT. You will also support with developing and offering consultation to other professionals supporting children and young people presenting with Neurodiverse differences.

Qualifications

• Recognised qualification degree / equivalent in S&LT
• HCPC registered
• Post graduate study relevant to clinical area at Masters level or equivalent demonstrable experience at this level
• Able to demonstrate continuing professional development e.g. up to date, relevant CPD portfolio.
• Clinical supervisory experience

Essential criteria

• Significant experience clinically in area of specialism
• Experience of clinical leadership
• Experience of leading clinical audit
• Experience of delivering / supporting practice / service change.
• Evidence of attendance on specialist short courses and advanced training in relation to clinical speciality

Desirable criteria

• Welsh / English therapy provision
• Experience of lecturing externally
• Additional clinical or, health care related experience
• Experience in research

• Extensive clinical experience and knowledge in relationship to specialty
• Understanding of professional ethics and their application in practice
• Welsh / English competency that is compatible with linguistically appropriate assessment and therapy provision
