Job summary

Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a senior psychologist to join the Greater Manchester Resilience Hub's Critical Incident and Trauma Service (CITS). You will provide specialist psychological interventions, supervise staff, and lead on trauma-focused care for professionals and the public affected by major incidents.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Clinical Team Leader to ensure safe, ethical care pathways for those impacted by incidents.
  • Lead development of universal and workplace psychological support offers for health, social care, and other professionals.
  • Maintain partnerships with other professionals and agencies supporting those affected by incidents and trauma.
  • Facilitate conflict resolution between stakeholders through appropriate mechanisms.
  • Undertake clinical reviews of screening information and referrals in the CITS service.
  • Provide assessment and formulation for specialist psychological interventions for complex/high-risk clients.
  • Formulate plans for formal psychological treatment and management of presenting issues.
  • Lead on formulation and care planning for services users in the CITS service.
  • Offer specialist advice, guidance, and consultation to team members contributing to treatment plans.
  • Manage risk assessment and risk management for individuals and advise on trauma symptom management.
  • Deliver evidence-based therapy using trauma-focused interventions for CITS service users.
  • Develop and lead consultations for systems, managers, and teams impacted by workplace trauma.
  • Exercise autonomous professional responsibility as a senior psychologist/psychotherapist within CITS.
  • Lead incident responses and promote best practices for wider teams.
  • Plan and deliver psycho-social group interventions for CTS service users.
  • Support training events for professionals working with those affected by major incidents.

The Greater Manchester Resilience Hub is a unique, all age, psychology led, trauma informed, partnership focused portfolio of services, established after the Manchester Arena Attack in 2017.


The Critical Incident and Trauma Service (CITS) offers specialist trauma advice,consultation, assessments and interventions following major incidents and to GM health and care staff experiencing incidents, trauma and vicarious trauma at work. The offer is hosted by Pennine Care NHS FT is for systems, teams and individuals.

  • Ensure the systematic provision of a high-quality specialist trauma service.
  • To work with people of all ages, including professionals, in GM impacted by major incidents and other traumatic events.
  • Offer highly specialist trauma informed consultation, assessment and NICE approved therapeutic interventions for individuals and teams.
  • Support service users to access appropriate treatment, including making referrals on their behalf to mental health services across the UK.
  • Develop and take responsibility for a range of interventions including 1:1and group interventions.
  • Provide highly specialist advice and consultation to other professionals involved in supporting people affected by incidents.
  • Take a lead in supporting the development of the CITS service and the wider portfolio of the GM Resilience Hub in becoming a GM centre of excellence in the care of those experiencing psychological difficulties as a result of involvement in a major incident or other trauma; this includes deputising for the clinical lead.
  • Take a lead in any incident and major incident responses.
  • Take responsibility for the management of, supervision of and development of qualified and unqualified staff within the CITS service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • Support the Clinical Team Leader to ensure there are safe and effective care pathways in place for those impacted by incidents.
  • Lead on developing an understanding of universal and workplace psychological support offers for health, social care and other professionals involved in incidents.
  • Take responsibility for maintaining partnerships and effective interfaces with other professionals and agencies that work alongside mental health services in supporting those affected by incidents and trauma.
  • Proactively involve stakeholders, respond to and support the resolution of conflict between different stakeholders when this arises through facilitation and or other appropriate mechanisms.
  • Undertake clinical reviews of screening information and other referrals received in the CITS service.
  • Provide assessment and formulation for specialist psychological intervention of complex/high risk service users open to the CITS service.
  • To formulate plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of client’s presenting issues based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the client’s problems.
  • Take a lead on developing and reviewing formulation and care planning for services users open to the CITS service.
  • Provide specialist advice, guidance or consultation to team members and other professionals contributing directly to clients’ formulation and treatment plans.
  • Undertake risk assessment and risk management for individuals and provide advice to other professionals on psychological aspects of risk assessment and management of trauma symptoms.
  • Utilise sound clinical knowledge and awareness of national guidance in relation to trauma focussed interventions to deliver evidence-based therapy to CITS service users.
  • Develop and lead on consultation, formulation and interventions for systems, managers and teams impacted by trauma in the workplace.
  • To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the advice, consultation and formulation provided as a highly specialist psychologist/psychotherapist within the CITS service.
  • Lead on incident responses for teams and individuals, promoting best practice and supporting wider systems.
  • Plan, lead on and deliver group interventions for CTS service users, with a focus on psycho-social interventions for trauma.
  • Support the Clinical Team Leader in the planning and delivery of training events for other professionals working with those affected by major incidents.
  • To offer and contribute to specialist advice, support, education and training toall members of this team and wider services as required.
  • Be the senior clinician on home visits to families impacted by major incidents, as required.
  • Maintain knowledge of the evidence base and improve and positively develop clinical practice in relation to psychological support for those impacted by incidents.
