Job description

A Vacancy at Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust.

8A Practitioner Psychologist (0.8 WTE).

Band 7 preceptorship may be available for less experienced candidates who have undertaken clinical roles in a relevant physical health setting.

Role Overview

You will join the multi-disciplinary team supporting patients with cancer and will be supported by a principal clinical psychologist and other psycho-oncology team members. The role involves direct clinical work, MDT working, and opportunities to contribute to system-level thinking and service improvement across Christie Hospital and Greater Manchester.

Responsibilities
  • Form and sustain good and collaborative working relationships using formulation skills to inform patient care and the MDT approach.
  • Work flexibly and creatively with physical complexity, aligning therapeutic approach with other disciplines.
  • Provide direct and indirect working and contribute to particular difficulties faced by groups of patients within the service as they arise.
  • Communicate and inform care beyond the immediate MDT to support patients in their pathways with other services, including mental health services, due to physical complexity and comorbidities.
  • Participate in service evaluation, audit and research, which the team places value on.
  • Attend and contribute to ‘in-house’ teaching/education sessions.
Qualifications

Essential

  • Has required qualifications.
  • Has training in relevant evidence based psychological therapy following physical health difficulties.
  • Has experience of providing evidence based psychological therapies.

Desirable

  • Experience of working within acute hospital environments and liaising with hospital staff/MDTs.
