Highly Specialist Community Paediatric Dietitian

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, experienced, and motivated Dietitian to join our dynamic and forward‑thinking Community Paediatric Dietetic team at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust (UHCW). This role may be offered as a Band 6 to 7 development post depending on experience.

We are a Dietetic Department at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire. We employ nearly seventy Dietitians across inpatient and community adult and paediatric services, and we actively involve staff in research, audit and professional development.

Candidates are advised that this service is transitioning to a TUPE transfer to Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust from 1 April 2026, becoming part of the Integrated Children’s Directorate. Depending on the agreed start date a successful candidate may commence employment with UHCW before the transfer or from 1 April 2026 with the new Trust.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

Main duties of the job

You will lead on the delivery of high‑quality, evidence‑based dietetic care to children and young people across Coventry and the surrounding areas. This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop and influence community‑based paediatric dietetic services, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across health, education and social care.

  • To undertake complex dietetic / nutritional assessments (including interpretation of biochemistry, anthropometrics, clinical condition and diet history) to determine a nutritional diagnosis
  • Use expert clinical reasoning skills to provide highly specialist individual dietetic advice and treatment plans for patients who may present with multiple / highly complex clinical conditions, taking into consideration patients’ own goals and incorporating discharge planning as appropriate
  • Evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment plans as required
  • Communicate complex nutrition and dietetic information in an understandable form to staff, clients and carers using teaching, motivation and enhanced counselling skills, including situations where there are barriers to change
  • Take a lead on department audit and service development work (and research if appropriate to the role), translating findings into practice
  • Plan and organise the clinical supervision of student dietitians on clinical placement including planning, timetables and written assessments

Job responsibilities

  • Evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment plans as required
  • Communicate nutrition and dietetic information in an understandable form to staff, clients and carers using teaching, motivation and counselling skills, including situations where there are barriers to change
  • Lead on department audit and service development work, translating findings into practice
  • Plan and organise the clinical supervision of student dietitians on clinical placement including planning, timetables and written assessments
  • Support teaching / nutrition education of peers and multi‑professional colleagues
  • Engage in department and own CPD activities
  • Cover the work of colleagues and deputise for senior colleagues during periods of absence or peak workloads
  • Provide regular clinical supervision and support to junior colleagues
  • Provide line management to junior colleagues.
