Overview

Are you an enthusiastic clinician, keen to develop your expertise in working with complex cases within the area of adult acute mental health care? Applications are invited for 0.8 WTE Band 7 - 8A preceptorship Clinical Psychologist/Applied Psychologist. The acute service comprises of female and male acute wards, 6 bed Ministry of Defence ward, 1 male Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit and 2 Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment teams for Winchester and Basingstoke. You will be responsible for providing a qualified highly specialist clinical psychology service to clients of the Acute Care pathway in North & Mid Hants.

You will join a team of dynamic, supportive and passionate qualified & pre-qualification clinicians, committed to providing trauma informed care. You will provide specialist psychological assessment & therapy individually, through group programmes as well as offering advice, reflective practice, consultation & training to staff across the pathway. We adopted the innovative model of Comprehend, Cope & Connect CCC) in providing psychological therapies within acute care, alongside other evidence based models and strive to continuously evaluate our practice to maintain our learning and development. You will work closely with the leadership team within the Acute care pathway & will join a psychologically minded multidisciplinary team creating a culture to support the recovery of adults with severe & acute mental health difficulties.

Responsibilities
  • As member of the multi-professional team, work as an autonomous, independent practitioner responsible for your own work and interventions and for the interpretation of agreed guidelines and policies in providing a highly specialist Psychological service to individuals referred to 16 bedded female acute ward. This may include working with families/ carers or other identified person where appropriate.
  • Engage with individuals who predominantly present with complex psychological problems that would benefit from the services of acute and crisis care pathway.
  • Undertake complex assessments, offer consultancy and provide expert advice to acute and crisis colleagues, and the wider clinical multi-professional team, other agencies and non-professional carers.
  • Provide specialist treatment for complex cases and plan and prioritise your own clinical workload.
  • Provide specialist supervision for trainee psychologists and qualified and pre-qualification psychological therapy staff, and provide psychological guidance and supervision for multi-professional clinical colleagues.
  • Engage in research and development, cultivate and encourage a research ethos within the wider clinical team, and utilise research skills to contribute to policy or service development as necessary.
  • Place an emphasis on co-production and demonstrate an attitude which respects and values clients' and their carers and the core values of the trust.
