Job Overview
As highly specialised cardiac scientist you will also be expected to be able to carry out the complex cardiac tests relevant to your chosen specialism (Echo or Cardiac rhythm management). You will also provide leadership, support and give advice to junior members of the team and other health professionals as necessary.
Key Teams and Collaborators
- A multi‑disciplinary team of physiologists, several BSE accredited in Echocardiography with others completing the process, several staff with BHRS/IBHRE accreditation in pacing and/or EP
- 2 imaging consultants with particular interest in echocardiography including Stress Echocardiography, Bubble/Contrast studies and TOEs and Cardiac MRI
- Currently 15 cardiologists across the trust with various specialisms, some Interventionalists, some pacing/devices specialists.
- A complex device service with regular ILR, pacemaker, ICD and CRT implants with an extensive follow‑up service.
- Developing cardiac catheter suite – an established pPCI service of approximately 750 patients per year, 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Performing Rotablation, OCT, FFR and IVUS and Shockwave.
Responsibilities
- Carry out complex cardiac tests relevant to your chosen specialism (Echo or Cardiac rhythm management).
- Provide leadership, support and advise junior members of the team and other health professionals.
- Provide a high quality cardiac investigations service with specialist knowledge and experience in one or more areas.
- Be proficient in echocardiography, physiologist‑led exercise testing, pacemaker and ICD follow‑up clinics, technical support at permanent pacemaker and ICD implants, and undertake cardiac catheterisation procedures.
- Participate in one of our out of hours services (Pacing On Call, PPCI On Call or weekend echo provision).
Qualifications and Experience
- At least two years' work experience at senior physiologist level, competent and knowledgeable in investigations and the key elements of the role.
- Hold ILS/ALS, have a HNC/BSC in clinical physiology / MSc in Clinical science (cardiac) or equivalent.
- Proficient in the following cardiology investigations: echocardiography, physiologist‑led exercise testing, pacemaker and ICD follow‑up clinics and technical support at permanent pacemaker and ICD implants, and undertake cardiac catheterisation procedures.
