Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – SEN Provision. Location: Bere Alston, Devon. Start Date: ASAP. Contract: Full‑time, Permanent or Long‑Term Supply. Pay: Competitive daily rates paid via PAYE or Umbrella. Driver preferred due to rural location.

Job Overview

We’re recruiting a versatile, resilient and nurturing professional to join one of our specialist partner provisions near Bere Alston, supporting children and young people aged 7–19 with Autism (ASD) and Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including trauma and attachment‑related difficulties.

Responsibilities
  • Work alongside teachers to adapt and deliver engaging learning across the curriculum.
  • Lead small group and one‑to‑one interventions to boost academic progress and emotional well‑being.
  • Support students to regulate emotions, engage positively, and build confidence.
  • Act as a consistent, emotionally available adult for pupils with additional needs.
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate interventions that promote progress.
  • Support and mentor other teaching assistants, sharing good practice and expertise.
Qualifications
  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEN, SEMH, or Autism.
  • Knowledge of behaviour‑management and emotional‑regulation strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build strong, trusting relationships.
  • Stay calm, compassionate and professional in challenging situations.
  • Confidence in leading interventions and supporting other staff.
  • Reflective, proactive and committed to continuous professional growth.
