About The Role

Job Responsibilities
Supporting Teaching and Learning
  • Assist the Class Teacher with carrying out the professional duties of a teacher as outlined in the Professional Standards for Teachers.
  • Know and understand the Class Teacher’s curriculum planning and to plan, prepare and deliver assigned programmes of teaching and learning activities to individual, small groups and/or classes, modifying and adapting activities as necessary within agreed systems of supervision.
  • Provide high quality, challenging and differentiated educational activities and experiences through delivering a broad and balanced curriculum aiming at pupils achieving their full potential in all areas of learning.
  • Support the day-to-day running of classes across the school and take the lead in the absence of a class teacher.
  • Select and adapt appropriate resources/methods to facilitate agreed learning activities.
  • Reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
  • Take an active role in key areas of responsibility across the school including displays, resource organization, writing risk assessments, and supporting ICT use within classes.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of individual plans for pupils, including attending reviews if requested.
  • Support the role of parents/carers in pupils’ learning and contribute to meetings with feedback on progress and achievement.
  • Take an additional responsibility such as risk assessment coordination, manual handling, MDT link, ICT, etc.
Pupil Welfare and Safeguarding
  • Take responsibility for safeguarding and promoting pupils’ welfare according to school policies, including safeguarding and PREVENT.
  • Provide feedback on pupil behavior, relationships, and attitudes.
  • Monitor conduct and intervene in challenging situations, recording incidents as necessary.
  • Ensure high standards of personal care, monitoring health and wellbeing, and informing relevant professionals of concerns.
  • Promote independence, personal development, and high behavior expectations.
  • Support pupils’ development through curriculum activities and therapy or care programs.
  • Work cooperatively with colleagues, parents, and professionals following a multidisciplinary approach.
  • Attend to pupils’ personal needs including toileting, hygiene, dressing, eating, and social or health matters.
Pupil Attainment and Progress
  • Assess, record, and report on development, progress, and attainment.
  • Identify pupils’ needs and support their learning with specialist skills.
  • Collaborate with staff and professionals involved with pupils’ curriculum.
Monitoring and Recording Progress
  • Participate in planning and evaluating learning activities.
  • Provide feedback on pupil progress.
  • Monitor responses and learning achievements, reporting issues to teachers.
  • Complete all documentation accurately for records.
