Job Overview

New College Durham Academies Trust are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their team at North Durham Academy. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting students with additional needs through the delivery of therapeutic and intervention programmes designed to promote wellbeing, independence and engagement in learning. Working under the direction of the SENCO/Head of Inclusion, you will help students access the curriculum, build self-esteem, and develop essential life and social skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and deliver a range of therapeutic interventions such as zones of regulation, social stories and anxiety management activities.
  • Work closely with teaching staff and external professionals to ensure that students receive consistent, effective support.
  • Lead small group sessions and provide class cover when required.
  • Train other support staff in intervention strategies.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • GCSEs (grades 9-4 / A-C) in English and Maths.
  • A Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent).
  • HLTA status and experience delivering targeted interventions for students with additional needs is highly desirable.
