TeacherActive is proud to work with a wonderful independent SEND school in Maidstone, specialising in supporting students with Down's syndrome and a range of additional learning needs. The school is well known for its caring ethos, creative curriculum, and commitment to helping every learner reach their full potential — both academically and personally.

The school is looking to appoint a dedicated and compassionate Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their team immediately. This is a long‑term position with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Supporting the class teacher in planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to individual learning needs.
  • Leading small group interventions and one‑to‑one sessions to reinforce key skills and promote independence.
  • Creating and maintaining a safe, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment.
  • Assisting with the preparation of learning materials and classroom resources.
  • Supporting students with personal care needs, where required (training provided if needed).
  • Promoting communication, social interaction, and confidence‑building through creative learning activities.
  • Liaising with teachers, therapists, and parents to ensure consistent support and progress.
  • Contributing to pupil progress reports and supporting with classroom assessments.
Qualifications
  • HLTA status (or equivalent qualification/experience).
  • Experience supporting students with SEND, ideally those with Down's syndrome.
