Higher Level Teaching Assistant (Maths Specialism)

Contract: Term Time Only (38 weeks including INSET)

Hours: 36 hours per week

Salary: Actual salary approx. 24,387.60 (including paid holiday)

We are seeking an enthusiastic, proactive and skilled Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) with a Maths specialism to join a supportive and collaborative SEND team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual to play a key part in the development and delivery of high-quality SEND support.

About the Role

The successful candidate will act as a key worker for students with special educational needs, leading interventions, supporting learning in and out of the classroom, and guiding less experienced support staff. You will work closely with the SENCO and teaching teams to ensure that students receive the personalised support they need to thrive.

  • Strong academic qualifications
  • Experience working with children or young people in a school or similar educational setting
  • Confident use of ICT and strong literacy and numeracy skills
  • Excellent organisational, administrative and communication skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, particularly when working with young people
  • A flexible, proactive approach and a willingness to go the extra mile
  • Reliability, commitment, and patience
  • Experience working in classroom environments (highly desirable)

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver and lead targeted intervention programmes for SEND and underachieving students
  • Track progress, evaluate impact, and adjust support programmes as needed
  • Act as key worker for students with EHCPs, liaising with external agencies and contributing to reviews
  • Provide guidance, support and training to less experienced teaching assistants
  • Line-manage a group of Learning Support Assistants (LSAs)
  • Plan and prepare learning activities and resources under the guidance of teaching staff
  • Support teaching and learning across the curriculum, promoting positive behaviour and engagement
  • Provide detailed verbal and written feedback to teachers regarding student progress and behaviour
  • Contribute to out-of-class learning opportunities, trips and activities
  • Build positive relationships with parents/carers and maintain effective communication
  • Collaborate with teachers and external professionals such as therapists and educational psychologists
  • Attend meetings, training sessions and INSET days as required
