An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proactive and highly skilled Higher Level Medical Secretary to join our dedicated Head & Neck Secretariat team at Princess Royal Hospital. This is a pivotal role within a small, supportive team of Medical Secretaries. Providing high-level secretarial support to Consultants within the Head & Neck Cancer department, managing complex clinical correspondence using sensitive medical terminology via audio transcription. Organising and prioritising a varied workload in a fast-paced environment. Communicating effectively with multidisciplinary teams across all levels upholding the highest standards of accuracy, confidentiality, and professionalism.

Responsibilities
  • Produce accurate clinical and general correspondence, frequently transcribing complex and sensitive medical terminology from audio dictation.
  • Handle telephone enquiries from patients who may be anxious or distressed, demonstrating empathy and professionalism while managing contentious and sensitive situations with discretion.
  • Manage multiple tasks, a significant and substantial number of which are non-routine, ensuring that deadlines are met.
  • Transcribe complex and sensitive medical terminology from audio dictation.
  • Prioritise and organise own workload, making decisions and initiating action where necessary, ensuring the smooth running of the office/team through shared knowledge and cover.
  • Ensure that the results of tests and investigation reports for patients are received; shown to medical staff and all relevant ongoing arrangements are carried out.
  • Using own initiative ensure that results which require immediate action are presented to the Consultant or other senior member of the Medical Team/Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) in a timely manner and clinical responses are completed.
Qualifications
  • 4 GCSEs (grades 9–4 or C–A) or equivalent, RSA Stage 3 typing and word processing skills (or equivalent experience), proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, a qualification or active progress toward NVQ Level 3 in Business/Medical Administration or AMSPAR
