Higher Clinical Fellow in General Medicine

YOU MUST HAVE MEMBERSHIP OF ROYAL COLLEGE OF PHYSICIANS (MRCP) AND NHS EXPERIENCE TO BE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY

You will not be shortlisted if you do not meet the minimum criteria so please do not apply without MRCP and NHS experience. The ideal post holder will also have completed PACES.

INCLUDES ONCALL ROTA (LONG DAYS, NIGHTS, WEEKENDS & NORMAL DAYS.)

These are posts at the level of a Specialist Registrar in General Medicine. These will appeal to those who have completed SHO level training and are wishing to pursue a higher career in Acute Medicine &/or Medical Specialties.

You will be supported with your education via clinical & educational supervision in order to build your HORUS portfolio.

Main duties of the job

The responsibilities of the post are identical to that of a middle grade IM3 or SPR in Medicine.

  • Ensure a safe and high standard of care of all patients
  • Be able to demonstrate competencies for Registrar-level clinical procedures and patient management plans. (ie acetic taps, lumbar punctures, chest drain etc.)
  • Participate in the running of the department / ward
  • Provide supervision of Resident doctors on medical wards &/or in the on-call team
  • Provide senior medical input for the on-call Medical Team (especially Out of Hours) and potentially lead the cardiac arrest team
  • Assist with achieving the DOH Clinical Quality Indicators
  • To ensure timely completion of TTOs by Resident Doctors to ensure patient are discharged as early in the day as possible.
  • To work positively with management teams, deputies and flow coordinators to help facilitate and improve patient flow from ED to the Medical Wards to Discharge.

The ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team is essential to this post. You will participate in operational and research projects and the teaching of the Resident Doctors, Medical Students, Nursing staff and other Ancillary staff.
