Job summary

A leading vehicle maintenance provider in Tetford is seeking an experienced HGV technician. The role involves maintaining commercial vehicles to MOT standards, diagnosing faults, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. The ideal candidate will possess a technical qualification, an HGV licence, and excellent communication skills. This position offers a structured 40-hour work week with alternating early and late shifts.

Qualifications

  • Technical qualification or hands-on workshop experience required.
  • Current driving licence is essential.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine maintenance and repairs to VOSA standard.
  • Diagnose and rectify faults on various vehicles.
  • Liaise with the parts department for required parts.

Job description

Working hours: 40 hours - Monday to Friday, alternating by week between 6:00-14:00 and 14:00-22:00, with a 30-minute paid break per shift.

The HGV technician’s role within TruckEast is to be responsible for maintaining commercial vehicles and trailers to MOT standard.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out routine maintenance and repairs on all makes of vehicles and trailers to VOSA standard
  • Diagnose and rectify all types of faults
  • Attend disabled vehicles at the roadside or at customer’s premises
  • Ensure all vehicles worked upon are handled carefully and that all precautions are taken whilst on the premises
  • Liaise with parts department to attain parts
  • Ensure Health & Safety regulations and safe working practices are adhered to
  • Ensure appropriate clocking is made, all job cards and service sheets are completed in a timely manner
  • Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and tidiness
  • Maintain a thorough and current product knowledge and attend training courses
  • Provide cover on rota system for breakdown cover
Candidate requirements
  • Technical qualification (City & Guilds level 3 or NVQ qualified technician), or knowledge gained through hands‑on workshop experience
  • Current driving licence
  • Flexibility to undertake a wide range of tasks
  • Ability to work within guidelines and to deadlines
  • Ability to work as a teamAbility to work under pressure
