Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled HGV Technician to join a busy and dynamic vehicle maintenance team. This role involves carrying out inspections, repairs, and MOTs on a varied fleet of vehicles, ensuring all work meets manufacturer standards and complies with current legislation.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform thorough inspections, repairs, and warranty work on HGVs to ensure roadworthiness and MOT compliance.
- Diagnose faults and carry out repairs on hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
- Complete service reports, paperwork, and electronic job sheets in line with internal procedures.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment, adhering to health & safety regulations and reporting incidents or near‑misses.
- Undertake training to maintain up‑to‑date skills and ensure compliance with legal and operational standards.
- Mentor apprentice technicians and support their development.
- Provide roadside assistance when required.
- Offer flexibility to support operations at other depots when needed.
- Ensure full compliance with all company policies and procedures.
- Carry out any other duties as required by management that fall within the scope of the role.
Candidate Profile
- City & Guilds Parts 1, 2 & 3, NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in HGV maintenance preferred. Candidates with 10+ years of hands‑on HGV experience are also encouraged to apply.
- Strong understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrics, with practical skills in mechanical and technical equipment.
- Good knowledge of current health & safety regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable team player with the ability to work independently.
- Willingness to travel to other sites occasionally to support business needs.
- Hold a current HGV licence (Class 2 minimum) and digital tachograph card (desirable).
- Valid Driver CPC card with 35 hours completed (desirable).
Note: Due to the nature of the role, technicians may be required to work at height using safety equipment with a manufacturer’s weight limit of 140kg. Applicants must confirm they do not exceed this limit.
