HGV Mechanic

Location: Dudley

Salary: £38,000 - £50,000 per annum (DOE)

Hours: Monday to Friday, Day Shift | Full-Time, Permanent

Company Overview

Our client is a well-established business specialising in the sale of quality used HGV vehicles, with a stock of over 200 vehicles and more than 500 units sold each year. They have built a strong reputation for reliability, service quality, and customer satisfaction. Due to continued growth, they are now seeking an experienced HGV Mechanic to join their busy workshop in Dudley.

Position Overview

We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented HGV Mechanic to join the used vehicle preparation team. In this role, you will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing HGVs, ensuring that every vehicle is safe, roadworthy, and presented to the highest standard prior to sale.

You’ll be part of a professional team that takes pride in delivering quality workmanship and maintaining exceptional standards across all vehicles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare HGVs for resale through detailed inspections and repair work.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical faults using diagnostic tools and software.
  • Carry out routine servicing, maintenance, and component replacements efficiently and accurately.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate service records for all work carried out.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues to ensure smooth workflow and timely vehicle preparation.
  • Comply with all workshop health and safety policies and maintain a clean, organised work area.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and solid technical understanding of HGV systems.
  • Previous experience as an HGV Mechanic, Vehicle Technician, or similar role within a commercial vehicle environment.
  • Competent in the use of diagnostic equipment and fault-finding tools.
  • Relevant qualifications in Vehicle Maintenance or Heavy Vehicle Engineering (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent preferred).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills and a positive team-oriented attitude.
  • Full UK driving licence (HGV licence desirable).

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a close-knit team.
  • Reliable, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel to other sites occasionally if required.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends when needed.
