Job summary

Great Bear is hiring experienced HGV Class 1 Drivers for the Port Salford site in Manchester on a permanent, full-time basis. This 24/7 operation delivers to Regional Distribution Centres nationwide.

Various shifts available with 12-hour average shifts, start times 02:00–06:00, and pay boosts to £17.04–£18.54 per hour plus supplements and overtime at +30%. Role focuses on safe, professional deliveries, timely reporting, and strict adherence to Driver Hours and Tachograph rules.

Qualifications

• Valid C+E Licence.
• 12 months HGV Class 1 driving experience preferred; new passes not accepted.
• No more than 6 points; no DD/DR convictions.
• Current valid DCPC and Tachograph cards.
• Good understanding of Driver’s Hours and Working Time Directive.
• Ability to complete vehicle checks and report defects correctly.
• Commitment to on-site health and safety requirements.
• Excellent communication skills and a professional approach.

Responsibilities

• Carry out safe, professional deliveries to customer premises.
• Complete general haulage deliveries to Regional Distribution Centres.
• Report delays, delivery issues or load discrepancies to Transport team at shift start.
• Complete all paperwork and ensure PODs are signed and returned.
• Follow company rules, health and safety and hygiene standards.
• Manage working time in line with Road Transport Directive and tachograph rules.
• Complete daily vehicle checks and report defects correctly.
• Take responsibility for unit and trailer, including temperature checks where required.
• Maintain high standard of behaviour, appearance and customer service.

We’re looking for experienced HGV Class 1 Drivers to join our Great Bear team at our Port Salford site in Manchester,This is a fantastic opportunity to secure a permanent, full-time driving role with a 24/7 operation, delivering goods to Regional Distribution Centres nationwide.

We offer a range of shift patterns to suit different lifestyles, with a preference for drivers who can work one of the following:

• Monday to Friday Days
• Thursday to SaturdayDays orThursday to Sunday Days
• Average shift length of 12 hours
• Start times between 02:00 and 06:00
• Consistent work patterns with regular hours available

This is a fantastic opportunity for professional drivers looking for stable, ongoing work with a variety of shift options to fit their schedule.

We have increased our pay rates, with hourly rates now starting at£17.04plus shift supplements and overtime paid at hourly rate plus 30%

What you’ll be doing

• Carry out safe, professional deliveries to customer premises.
• Complete general haulage deliveries to Regional Distribution Centres
• Report to the Transport team at the start of each shift and communicate any delays, delivery issues or load discrepancies promptly.
• Complete all paperwork accurately and ensure PODs are signed and returned to the Transport Office.
• Follow company rules and procedures, including health, safety and hygiene standards.
• Manage your working time in line with the Road Transport Directive and adhere to tachograph rules and regulations.
• Complete daily vehicle checks in line with company procedure and report defects correctly.
• Take responsibility for the unit and trailer, including temperature checks where required.
• Maintain a high standard of behaviour, appearance and customer service at all times.

What we’re looking for

• Minimum 12 months’ HGV Class 1 driving experience preferred; unfortunately, we cannot accept new pass drivers for this contract.
