Job summary

Bath and North East Somerset Council is seeking experienced historic built environment professionals for fixed-term Conservation Officer roles. Positions are 2-year contracts with career-graded pay (Grade 7/8) and salaries of £35,570–£38,510 or £39,481–£42,123 per year.

You will join a multidisciplinary conservation team, handle listed building decisions, advise on proposals, and support Local Plan work. Hybrid working with main office in Keynsham, plus homeworking and Bath locations.

Qualifications

• A degree in a relevant subject.
• Membership of IHBC and ideally RTPI.
• Proven track record in heritage conservation and the planning process.
• Strong understanding of national and local historic environment policy and legislation.
• Experience in local government.

Responsibilities

• Manage, assess and recommend decisions on listed building consent and planning applications.
• Advise on development proposals affecting heritage assets.
• Guide new development and capital projects with historic environment implications.
• Conservation area designation, review and appraisal.
• Work on heritage at risk.
• Contribute to Local Plan policy development and site allocations.
