Job description

We are recruiting a Heavy Goods Vehicle Technician at Caerphilly County Borough Council.

Overview

This position offers an excellent opportunity to become part of our team and provide support across the organization. We pay an attractive salary of £35,412 - £38,220 and offer access to training and development opportunities.

Responsibilities

As an HGV Technician, you’ll play a key part in keeping some of the council’s biggest specialist fleet brands on the road. You will be responsible for conducting MOT preparations, inspections, maintenance, repair, and servicing of our customers’ fleets. You will inspect and maintain Authority’s fleet of vehicles, hired vehicles, plant and equipment; and undertake all mechanical and electrical repairs to DVSA and manufacturer’s standards in line with Council policies and the guide to maintaining road worthiness. You will repair and maintain the Authority’s refuse vehicles, sweepers and gritting vehicles including all mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems, in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations. Work to schedule of rates contract times and record all necessary documentation required in line with the Authority’s procedures.

Qualifications
  • Relevant knowledge of HGV MOT standards.
  • A Level 3 qualification on the Credit and Qualifications Framework for Wales (for example, NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Goods maintenance).
  • A proven record of working on HGV vehicles, light commercials and working with municipal vehicles.
  • A Full driving licence for vehicles weighing over 3.5 tonnes (3,500kg), Large Vehicles Category C or C+E, or willing to obtain following appointment within 12 months.
  • Full UK Category B (Cars) driving licence to drive Council Vehicles.
