Job description

A fantastic opportunity has arisen with Fleet Maintenance Services to join their team at the busy workshop in Snake Hill Industrial Estate in Middleton. They require an enthusiastic and motivated person with a keen interest in the automotive industry. Fleet Maintenance Services Ltd provide a quality service at very low rates, with no compromise on workmanship and results.

Responsibilities
  • Keeping the workshop clean and tidy.
  • Using the tools and equipment used in vehicle maintenance and repair.
  • Learning safe working procedures in the workshop.
  • Assisting other technicians with their work whilst receiving on‑the‑job training.
  • Learning how to service a vehicle and safely remove and replace engine, chassis, electrical and transmission components.
  • Learning simple and complex fault diagnosis and repairs on engine, chassis, transmission and electrical systems.
  • Carrying out the basic tasks with tools and equipment common to all procedures involving basic mechanical and electrical procedures related to HV.
  • Keeping updated with emerging new technologies within the HV industry.
  • Contributing to the maintenance of a safe and efficient workshop and adhering to company and legislative processes.
  • Accessing specific and related HV technical information appropriately.
  • Service, inspect and maintain HVs and trailers to meet company, driver and vehicle standards agency (DVSA) and manufacturers’ standards.
  • Using a range of diagnostic and electrical measuring equipment to identify faults and underlying causes on HVs.
  • Successfully inspecting and preparing vehicles and trailers to meet DVSA standards prescribed in the tester’s manual.
  • Carrying out final quality checks before handover to the customer without supervision.
  • Applying advanced diagnostic principles and logical/problem solving techniques and regimes.
  • Maintaining records to meet company and operators’ licence obligations and regulation.
  • Communicating effectively in both oral and written mediums, internally and with customers, on topics that support HV inspection and diagnosing techniques.

What you could go on to do: You could progress to become an HGV MOT Tester with the company after completing the apprenticeship.

Benefits and Compensation

£15,704 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age.

Training and Work Schedule

Training course: Heavy vehicle service and maintenance technician (level 3).

Hours: Monday to Friday, hours to be confirmed (TBC). 40 hours a week.

Start date: Monday 8 December 2025.

Duration: 3 years.
