Job summary

Aira is seeking a Heating System Design Engineer (Field) to join its team in Southampton, United Kingdom. You will conduct site surveys, design air source heat pump installations for domestic properties and ensure solutions meet customer and regulatory requirements.

In this role, you will gather data to generate heat loss calculations, liaise with customers, and adapt designs to site conditions while complying with Aira’s efficiency guidelines and industry standards.

Qualifications

  • Designing high quality air source heat pump installations for domestic properties.
  • Perform heat loss calculations and radiator emitter requirements from quotes, surveys and data.
  • Resolve technical issues to enable installations and report issues to the line manager.
  • Stay updated with manufacturer guidance, regulations including heat pumps and building regulations.
  • Work within efficiency guidelines and industry standards (MCS) for installations.

Responsibilities

  • Attend customer properties in your designated area for surveys.
  • Carry out site surveys and collect data for installation requirements.
  • Perform room-by-room heat loss assessments to determine radiator needs.
  • Communicate price changes and obtain customer approval for proposals.
  • Compile a materials list for installation.
  • Respond to customer technical queries and ensure smooth installations.

About the role as Heating System Design Engineer at Aira

The survey/design visit is a key aspect of the customer journey to ensure an installation goes ahead as planned, and as the customer expects. You will find solutions to problems, ensure the project works in the interests of both the customer and Aira, and provide excellent customer service along the way. You will have the technical expertise to offer additional products and services we may offer in the interests of the customer.

What you’ll be doing as Heating System Design Engineer at Aira

Have the necessary qualifications, training, and experience to design high quality air source heat pump installations for domestic properties.

Gather information from the quote, property and your survey data to generate an accurate heat loss calculation and emitter output requirements

Find solutions to any technical issues where possible to ensure an installation can still go ahead

Report any issues which may affect installation to your line manager from the customers property.

Keep up to date with all manufacturer's guidance, and any legislative changes including but not limited to heat pumps, low carbon heating, clean energy, and building regulations.

Operate within required Aira’s efficiency guidelines as well as MCS etc.

What might a day look like?

Attend customer properties in your designated area

Conduct a site survey and collect data relevant to the installation requirements

Carry out a room by room heat loss assessment

Determine which radiators need to be replaced, and communicate this with your customer

Answer any technical queries the customer may have

Communicate any price changes with the customer and explain the reason for these

Obtain approval from the customer for your proposal to go ahead

Create a list of materials required for the installation to be carried out

What you'll need to have as Heating System Design Engineer at Aira

You'll need to have the necessary qualifications, training, and experience to design high quality air source heat pump installations for domestic properties.

Qualifications in System design such as Heat Geek Heating Mastery

Level 3 Award in installation and maintenance of air source heat pump systems

Water regulations certificate (WRAS) course

Level 2 / 3 Award in plumbing

Level 3 Award Low temperature heating and hot water systems in dwellings
