Overview

Are you passionate about helping people and looking for a new challenge? We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Health Care Assistant to join our friendly and supportive team at Granard House 2 ward, a 7-bedded private care ward specialising in Urology surgical patients.

The ward also accepts patients undergoing chemotherapy and other types of surgery such as colorectal and sarcoma.

Responsibilities
  • Support the Qualified nurses in all aspects of patient care from admission through to discharge.
  • Carry out nursing care tasks in a responsible and efficient way, drawn up in conjunction with the shift co-ordinator.
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop a greater awareness of the needs of patients with cancer and different treatment modalities, and work autonomously under supervision of a registered nurse.
  • Be an integral member of the nursing team to ensure an efficient, safe, clean and pleasant environment for all patients.
  • Practice the Care Certificate and support junior staff to achieve its standards.
  • Communicate with tact and empathy, overcoming barriers to understanding e.g., patients with physical impairment, mental health conditions or learning disabilities.
  • Monitor and record patients’ vital signs (including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturation) and report any abnormal results to registered nursing staff.
  • Assess patient comfort and instigate emergency procedures as needed.
  • Measure and record patients’ height and weight.
  • Perform venepuncture and venous blood sampling after training and competency assessment.
Qualifications
  • Applicants must have successfully completed an NVQ in Healthcare at Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Experience in working in an acute environment is essential.
  • Flexible, willing to learn new skills and have excellent communication skills.
