Job summary

Spectrum Community Health CIC is recruiting for an Apprenticeship Healthcare Support Worker (NHS AfC Band 2) in Wakefield Sexual Health. The role supports clinical care and administrative duties under supervision, with training provided.

You will work across services, assist with samples, contraception, and STI management while maintaining stock control. The post offers NHS Pension access, a flexible environment, training opportunities, and up to 33 days of annual leave.

Qualifications

• Genuine interest in GUM/Contraception specialism displayed in application and interview.
• Vocational Level 2 qualification or equivalent, with willingness to study Level 3.
• Typing RSA 1 and basic maths/English qualifications or plans to obtain them.
• Experience with office software and patient records is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Support delivery of clinical care in the Sexual Health Service under supervision.
• Chaperone, obtain samples, assist contraception and STI management.
• Maintain stock levels and assist across a range of services.

Healthcare Support Worker Apprentice - Wakefield Sexual Health

Job overview

This is an apprentice role band 2. Band 3 on completion of training requirements.

The post holder will provide support and clinical care to the service users and staff within Wakefield Integrated Sexual Health team under the supervision of a clinician. The post holder will also provide some administrative and clerical support as required.

Experience of SystmOne is advantageous however will training will be provided.

Main duties of the job

Support the delivery of clinical care in the Sexual Health Service. The role willinclude chaperoning, obtaining samples and assisting medical and nursing staff in the provision of contraception and the management of sexually transmitted infections.

Maintain stock levels and stock control within the unit.

Person specification

Qualifications

• Genuine interest and desire to work in GUM/Contraception Specialism – this should be displayed in both application and interview.
• Vocational qualification at level 2 or equivalent relevant experience (e.g.GCSE grade 9-4)
• Prepared to study and complete Level 3 qualification (equivalent to A Level/BTEC National level)
• CDL/Elite
• Typing RSA 1
• Qualification in Mathematics & English language (or be prepared to obtain through apprenticeship)

Knowledge

• Understanding of basic Sexual health issues.
• In depth knowledge of the range of contraception and sexually transmitted infections

Experience

• Previous experience of working in a health care setting dealing with confidential and sensitive matters
• Confident and able to communicate with a range of people
• Can demonstrate they are able to work in an organised and methodical way, multitasking as necessary
• Computer literate, and confident in using a range of Microsoft Office programmes and electronic patient records/effective typist.
• Previous experience communicating with the general public face to face or via telephone
• Stock control and ordering of supplies.
