Overview

York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Healthcare Support Worker. The closing date is 08 October 2025.

We are looking for people who are caring, compassionate and love the challenge of a busy unit. You will be guided in your role by our friendly and supportive team. You will need to demonstrate excellent communication skills, a positive professional manner, adaptability to change and the ability to work well with a diverse team of professionals. In return, we offer opportunities for personal and professional growth, learning and development. We encourage informal visits to meet our team and department. This role requires cross-site working.

Main duties of the job
  • To assist the registered practitioner in providing high quality compassionate care and assistance to patients/relatives and their carers, appropriate to their needs.
  • Responsible for carrying out tasks as delegated by the registered practitioner, who has overall accountability for delegating care.
  • To provide pastoral support to new starters to the ward in a kind and compassionate manner.
  • To use own initiative within the level of competence to complete day to day activities for the role.

  • Understanding of confidentiality requirements in a healthcare setting
Qualifications & Education
  • Successful completion of the care certificate
  • Level 2 Maths and English (GCSE A-C or equivalent) or Functional Skills Level 2
  • Level 3 qualification or equivalent (UK equivalent) (Health and Social Care qualification preferred) or working towards
Knowledge & Experience
  • 3 Years previous health care assistant experience.
