Overview

Working as a Health Care Support Worker (HCSW) at University Hospital Bristol and Weston is an immensely rewarding job. A job in which your care can make a real difference to patients' lives. This advert is for HCSW roles within Weston General Hospital. You only need to apply once for a role to be considered for a number of HCSW positions across the trust. If you have a particular interest, please add this to your supporting statement.

Responsibilities

As a HCSW on the adult inpatient wards you will be involved with direct patient care whilst maintaining the privacy and dignity of patients. You will work alongside a registered nurse to provide the essentials: nursing care, helping your patients (male and female) with daily living tasks, including washing, hygiene & continence, and assisting with meals (nutrition).

  • Helping with mobility needs and providing pressure area care.
  • Providing emotional support to patients and their families.
  • One‑to‑one observation for patients who present a high risk due to clinical condition.
  • Ensuring that the ward environment is clean and safe to prevent infection and falls.
  • Taking and recording patients' vital signs, identifying and escalating changes to the registered nurse.
  • Possibly performing additional clinical skills such as ECGs, venepuncture and simple dressings as required by the ward area.
  • Training and supporting new and junior team members, including student nurses, when competent.

Please note, this role does not currently meet the salary requirement for a Skilled Worker visa. From the 9th April 2025, the minimum salary required for a Skilled Worker visa became £25,000 per year.
