Job description
Overview

Health Care Support Worker (HCSW) at Weston General Hospital. Provide direct patient care on adult inpatient wards, working with registered nurses.

Responsibilities
  • Assist patients with mobility, personal hygiene, continence and nutrition.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and families.
  • Observe patients one-to-one, especially those at high clinical risk.
  • Maintain a clean, safe ward environment, preventing infection and falls.
  • Record vital signs, raise concerns and coordinate with registered nurse.
  • Perform clinical tasks including ECG, venepuncture and simple dressings where required.
  • Train and support new staff and student nurses once competent.
  • Work 12‑hour shifts, days, nights, weekends and bank holidays, flexible across all patterns.
Qualifications & Training
  • Level 3 qualification or equivalent: City & Guilds 3, NVQ 3, BTEC National Diploma or experience.
  • Level 2 functional skills in English and Maths or equivalent.
  • Disclosure and Barring services check and Rehabilitation of offenders act compliance.
  • Current Skilled Worker visa sponsorship status acceptable.

Working Pattern & Pay

Full-time: 37.5 hours per week (12‑hour shifts days, nights, weekends, bank holidays). Part‑time: 23 hours per week. Pay: £24,465 per annum (Band 2). Permanent contract. Location: Weston General Hospital, Mendip Road, Weston‑Super‑Mare, BS23 3HB.
