Healthcare Support Worker

Healthcare Support worker Band 2 or 3 (Dependent on Experience & Interview Performance)

Hours per week: Full time, 37.5 hours per week (will consider part time, minimum 22.5)

Contract Type: Permanent

Main duties of the job

You will start your career with us by taking part in our full time two week induction programme, designed to support you in finding your feet within our organisation, and enable you to feel part of the team. The induction programme leads to the Care Certificate.

The HCSW role includes a variety of working patterns which attract shift allowances.

Band 2 job summary
  • Undertakes personal care duties: bathing, toileting, dressing, support with meals, assist patients with their appearance.
Band 3 job summary
  • Undertakes personal care duties: bathing, toileting, dressing, support with meals, assist patients with their appearance.
  • Undertakes a range of delegated clinical care duties in hospital, community or other settings.
  • Records patient observations and changes to patient clinical conditions.
  • Carries out limited clinical care duties.
  • Undertakes a limited range of delegated clinical care duties relevant to the services provided/work area and records patient observations: e.g. taking blood pressure, blood glucose monitoring, pregnancy testing, routine maternal and neonatal observations, observing patients for signs of agitation or distress, wound observations and simple wound dressings, removal of peripheral cannula, urinalysis, removal of catheter with appropriate training and competencies.

  • Completed care certificate or ability to complete within 3 months of appointment
  • Knowledge in a relevant area gained through experience, on the job training, short courses and completion of work based competencies
  • Compliance with Mandatory updates annually (or as required) on an ongoing basis
  • Essential - Band 3
  • Completed care certificate or ability to complete within 3 months of appointment
  • English and maths qualification at GCSE 1-3 (D-G)/Function skills at level 1 (or an internationally recognised equivalent)
  • NVQ Level 2 qualification or equivalent in a relevant area gained through experience, on the job training, short courses and completion of work based competencies
  • Compliance with Mandatory updates annually (or as required) on an ongoing basis
  • Desirable - Band 2
  • English and maths qualification at GCSE 1-3 (D to G) /Function skills at level 1 (or an internationally recognised equivalent)
  • NVQ level 2 in a relevant subject.
