Job description
Position Overview

Healthcare assistants are a vital part of the team that supports the staff and patients in wards and departments throughout the hospital. Working under the direction of qualified nursing/midwifery staff, they carry out a wide range of duties to care for, support, and provide information to patients and their families. The role can be very varied depending upon the area in which the person is employed and includes housekeeping duties and basic medical checks such as taking a patient’s temperature, pulse and respiration rate.

You must have acute experience and a mathematics and English level 2 qualification. All applicants are required to pass the BKSB (Mathematics and English Functional Skills) test and will proceed to the next stage of the interview held on 2nd and 3rd October 2025. Candidates will also be required to complete a Maths and English test on the day of the interview.

They will demonstrate the Trust values – Kindness, Respect, Safety and Excellence – in all aspects of their role and aim to ensure that all patients are provided with a safe and high‑quality standard of care.

Key Responsibilities

This post may form a development pathway to a Band 3 Senior Health Care Support Worker role, provided the role is relevant to the clinical area and the relevant courses and competencies are met.
