Job summary
Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Sleep Scientist/Practitioner to join the Sleep Service across Trafford General Hospital and Withington Community Hospital as part of the Community Diagnostic Centre. The role is 22.5 hours per week with weekend, evening and night shift rotation.
The Sleep Service supports CPAP pathways and a CPAP user base of thousands, with involvement in education and training for university students.
Qualifications
- Leadership in a clinical/physiological setting.
- Competent in setting up, downloading and scoring respiratory sleep studies.
- Competent in CPAP procedures.
- Experience in teaching Sleep Physiology to undergraduates and nursing students.
- Experience in performing, scoring and interpreting full video polysomnography.
- Experience in mentoring staff.
- Experience working in NHS or similar Public Health Services.
- Experience of night shifts.
Responsibilities
- Performing, analysing and reporting on sleep studies (respiratory polygraphy, polysomnography, MSLT/MWT).

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Healthcare Scientist/Practitioner to join the Sleep Service at Trafford General Hospital, part of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. The post-holder will work across Trafford General Hospital and Withington Community Hospital as part of the Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC). The role is 22.5hrs (Including weekend, evening and night shift rotation to suit needs of the service)
The Sleep Service is a modern, dynamic unit serving a large population across the North West. With a CPAP user base of more than 8,000 patients, the service provides a comprehensive range of diagnostic and therapeutic pathways, including the assessment and management of non-respiratory sleep disorders.
We are also actively involved in education and training, contributing to the teaching of students on the PTP course at Manchester Metropolitan University.
The position will involve:
Performing, analysing and reporting on in-patient and outpatient sleep studies (including respiratory polygraphy, full video polysomnography, multiple sleep latency testing, maintenance of wakefulness testing and actigraphy).
Initiating treatment with CPAP and the follow-up of these patients using agreed protocols in both face-to-face and telephone clinics.
Teaching, training and mentoring of students and junior staff.
The service encourages and supports flexible working but the successful applicant will be expected to cover evening shifts on a rotating roster. The successful applicant will also be expected to travel to work at either Trafford General Hospital, or the Community Diagnostic Centre based at Withington Community Hospital (WTWA) as service demands require.

Enhanced DBS: Includes the above, plus any additional information held by local police that’s considered relevant to the role.

The Costs for a DBS
At Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), roles that require a DBS check are subject to a cost recovery policy. This means that the cost of submitting and processing a DBS application if you are successful and join us, will be deducted from your salary within the first three months of employment. If, however, you withdraw from a conditional offer after the DBS process has begun, you will still be liable for the cost incurred.

- Demonstrable leadership experience in a clinical/physiological setting

- Experience in teaching Sleep Physiology to University undergraduates and nursing students
- Experience in performing, scoring and interpreting full video polysomnography.

- Experience of mentoring staff
- Experience of working within the NHS or similar Public Health Services.

- BSc Biological or Physiological Sciences or Equivalent
- Registered with RCCP, AHCS or BRPT (or eligible for registration)
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development

- Evidence of participation in Research
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
