Overview

A Vacancy at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

The appointee will be a biological science graduate and must have experience within Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (H&I). They should be working towards specialist qualifications such as the BSHI Diploma or STP Training in H&I.

At appointment, registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) is desirable. A healthcare scientist without HCPC registration will be provided with relevant training to achieve this registration. After appropriate training, the appointee will perform tasks listed in this job description under supervision. The appointee is expected to develop to a high standard, with technical and analytical skills in practical aspects of H&I and its clinical application. They may pursue studies for a higher academic or professional qualification.

Responsibilities
  • Organise and plan workload in a time-efficient manner, with reference to senior staff.
  • Make significant contributions to the diagnostic service by performing H&I techniques and recording test results, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of laboratory databases after appropriate training.
  • Analyse and interpret test results and prepare reports for verification and authorisation.
  • Take a lead role in daily laboratory activities on a rota basis, supervising laboratory assistants, technologists and trainee scientists involved in specimen reception and sample processing after appropriate training.
  • Participate in out-of-hours on-call duties after appropriate training.
  • Participate in an appropriate CPD scheme (e.g., BSHI) as mandatory following HCPC registration.
