Job description
Overview

An opportunity has arisen to join a small, friendly and dedicated team within the Clinical Measurement Department at University Hospitals Dorset. The department is open from 8am until 5pm, Monday to Friday – weekend working may be required in the future. Staff will be required to work flexibly between these hours.

The post is a 3‑year fixed‑term healthcare science practitioner role. The post holder will assist with routine Clinical Measurement Services which include a range of diagnostic assessments, many of which sit within gastroenterology, colorectal and pelvic floor.

The role is training‑rich and offers the opportunity to undertake additional training in the form of a level 4 Diploma in Healthcare Science (subject to interest and suitability).

This demanding role offers developers a chance to grow organisational, interpersonal and inter‑professional skills while supporting a dynamic team.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the performance of diagnostic tests and assessments under the overall guidance of senior staff.
  • Conduct routine and non‑routine clinical work, including lifting, handling and patient transfers.
  • Set up the clinical room and equipment for investigations, and clear the room afterwards.
  • Maintain records of patient attendance, prepare patient packs and liaise with ward staff, porters and in‑patient transport services.
  • Follow department policies and SOPs, reporting to the Head of Clinical Measurement at regular intervals.
  • Provide practical training, observing, assisting, and performing procedures under direct supervision while supporting the diagnostic services team.
  • Communicate effectively within the healthcare environment, adapting communication to meet varying needs and overcoming barriers to understanding.
