Job summary

Wirral University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is offering an apprenticeship in its Medical Microbiology department. The fixed-term contract leads to a permanent post on completion, supporting Biomedical Scientists by preparing samples and reagents, maintaining analysers, and handling technical tasks.

Shifts include a late weekday rota to 19:00 and weekend cover. Candidates with the essential Level 2 qualifications may proceed to shortlisting and progression through the apprenticeship.

Qualifications

• Level 2 qualifications including Maths, English and Sciences.
• Clear written, verbal and telephone communication at all levels.
• Commitment to training and quality.

Responsibilities

• Process and prepare samples and reagents for the laboratory
• Maintain analysers
• Analyse patient specimens in line with departmental guidelines
• Support Biomedical Scientists in providing the Medical Microbiology service
• Carry out technical, clerical and administrative tasks for the department
• Maintain high standards of health and safety
• Comply with Trust and departmental SOPs and policies
• Assist in training and supervising less experienced staff
• Use resources cost effectively
• Contribute to continual improvement of the service
