Job summary

Circle Reading Hospital is seeking a Healthcare Assistant to join the Wards/Day Case team on a bank basis and provide cover during busy periods or staff leave. Salary is £12.71 per hour.

This role supports patients with hygiene, mobility and nutrition, and requires collaboration with nurses and doctors to maintain safe, compassionate care. Experience in health support is preferred; NVQ Level 2/3 is desirable.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a care or health support role.
• NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent) is desirable.
• Ability to follow instructions and maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with personal hygiene, washing, dressing and mobility.
• Provide nutrition support and document intake where appropriate.
• Record routine observations such as blood pressure, pulse, resp. rate, temperature, SpO2 and glucose after training.
• Support wound care setup, catheter care and pressure area prevention.
• Prepare and maintain clinical areas, trolleys, beds and equipment.
• Collaborate with nurses, doctors, therapists and admin teams to support safe patient care.

We have an opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join their team of staff in theWards/Day Casedepartment.

This is a bank role working on an “as and when required” basis, you will be required to supplement staffing levels during busy periods and provide cover for existing staff in times of annual leave or absence.

Duties of this role include:

Assist patients with personal hygiene, washing, dressing, toileting, oral care, and mobility needs, respecting their preferences and dignity.

Help patients with eating, drinking, and nutritional support, including documenting intake where appropriate.

Provide comfort and emotional support to patients and relatives, creating a caring and safe environment.

Carry out and accurately record routine observations such as blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, temperature, oxygen saturation, and blood glucose levels (after appropriate training).

Support basic clinical procedures, including wound care setup, assisting with catheter care, pressure area prevention, and mobility aids.

Prepare and maintain clinical areas, including trolleys, beds, and equipment in readiness for patient use.

Work collaboratively with nurses, doctors, therapists, and admin teams to support safe and efficient patient care

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

Previous experience in a care or health support role (hospital, care home, community, or domiciliary).

Good communication and interpersonal skills with a caring, compassionate attitude.

Ability to follow instructions and elevate concerns appropriately.

Basic literacy, numeracy, and IT skills.

Physically able to undertake duties including moving and handling tasks.

NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent qualification) desirable.

Knowledge of safeguarding, infection control, and confidentiality procedures.
